Episcopal Women’s History Project. Records

The records of the Episcopal Women’s History Project contains interviews and corresponding transcripts conducted with eighteen distinguished Episcopal women along with photographs, printed materials, and correspondence relating to the interviewees. These interviews span 1979 to 1991 with the majority taking place between 1981 and 1986. Additionally, the collection contains a questionnaire and its associated responses and correspondence that was sent to thirty-eight Episcopal women leaders in an attempt to document their experiences in the Church.

General Field Services. Records

These records document the work of the General Field Services unit of the Executive Council’s Department of Christian Education, which provided consulting services to Episcopal dioceses, mission districts, and other Church organizations on educational issues. They include correspondence, printed materials, strategic planning documents, and forms and reports detailing field work done by departmental officers.

The complex, shifting, and sometimes obscure institutional reorganizations of Executive Council in the late 1960s and 1970s are partially reflected in this collection.

Claypool, IV, (Rev. Dr.) John Rowan. Papers

The Claypool Papers are a complete archive of the ministerial records of a noted American preacher. His writings are especially representative of modern themes of redemption, personal Christian witness, and the valuation of life in its diverse expression. Of narrower but significant interest is Claypool's theological transformation from Southern Baptist minister to Episcopal priest. The archive contains audiovisual recordings, indexed sermons, correspondence, books, photographs, news clippings, publicity materials, and scrapbooks.

From 1964 to 1976 the records include minutes, committee reports, correspondence, delegate lists, financial reports, election records, and related mailings and printed materials. The records of the President of the 1976 Triennial Meeting, Pamela Chinnis, who later became the first female President of the House of Deputies, are feature prominently. Of note are addresses given by notable women leaders, including Verna Dozier, Marion Kelleran, Letty Russell, and Carmen Hunter.
