This collection contains primary sources created, collected, and/or annotated by William White and his descendants, including correspondence, sermons and manuscripts, financial and family estate records, printed illustrations and photographs, and research materials. The collection covers a broad period from 1643 to 1957, although the bulk of White’s papers dates from around 1784 to 1836, when White was most active in the Episcopal Church until his death.
White, WilliamThe Ellen Sitgreaves Vail Motter Manuscript Collection consists primarily of the correspondence of Bishops Samuel Bowman and Thomas Hubbard Vail. The vast majority of the material falls between the dates 1840-1886. Earlier collected material, especially the letters of William White, dates from as early as 1822. Additional letters, photographs, and printed material illuminate the bishops’ ministries, the development of the Diocese of Kansas, and the relationships among other bishops and church leaders. Several prominent Episcopal bishops are represented in the collection including Thomas Clark, George Doane, Alexander Griswold, Jackson Kemper, Alonzo Potter, Benjamin Bosworth Smith, William White, and William Whittingham.
Vail, Thomas HubbardDating back to 1780, the Journals of Diocesan Conventions and Councils collection is the accumulating archive of the published proceedings of annual diocesan conventions, which include the official record of the bishop diocesan's reports and addresses, clergy and parish lists, annual reports of diocesan agencies, parish statistical reports, diocesan budgets, and directories.
Additionally, the journals of Provinces I-IX and foreign dioceses and missionary districts are included in the archive.
Various DiocesesThe records of the House of Bishops includes correspondence, minutes of the House from General Convention and special sessions, clergy lists, and printed materials.
House of BishopsThis collection comprises printed sermons delivered at General Convention, the consecration of bishops, and on special occasions to various dioceses, including funerals and diocesan conventions.

Various BishopsThe Archives holds what appears to constitute a full set of Church Annuals dating from 1810 through present day. These annuals were published under various titles by multiple publishers, which were often published simultaneously, merged and/or renamed, resulting in an overlapping listing of titles and dates of publication.
Various PublishersThe Capers Papers are concentrated in the years 1919-1945 with some earlier and later material extending the full span to 1814-1984. Included are records and artifacts created in his role as a parish priest, correspondence with family members and congregation members, materials relating to his education at the Virginia Theological Seminary, photographs, and printed materials. Rounding out the collection are biographical and visual documentation created by or gathered on family members, including some correspondence and other records of his wife, father, grandfather, and great grandfather.
Capers, Samuel OrrThe Episcopal Theological School (ETS) archives broadly documents the administration, governance, instruction, and community of The Episcopal Church’s seminary in Cambridge, Massachusetts before its merger with the Philadelphia Divinity School (PDS) to form the Episcopal Divinity School (EDS). The records include the Board of Trustees and Board of Visitors; extensive financial records; student matriculation and performance records; records of the Deans and faculty; records of the ETS chapel, alumni association, and student organizations; and publications such as the ETS Bulletin and Catalog. The archive features audio recordings of sermons and conference proceedings made during important ETS events, as well as photographs of graduating classes, buildings, and seminary life. The ETS Centennial, celebrated in 1967 with conferences, commemorative events, and a major capital campaign, is well documented.
Episcopal Theological SchoolThis collection contains letter press books holding the correspondence of the Board of Missions from 1820 to 1911. Correspondents include the Secretary of the Executive Committee (1820-1835); the Secretary-General Agent and Treasurer of the Domestic Committee (1835-1885); the Secretary and Treasurer of the Indian Commission (1874-1879); the Foreign Committee (1820-1886); Joshua Kimber (1873-1883); the General Secretary, Treasurer, and Staff of the Board (1877-1911); and the Spirit of Missions (1852-1862). The letters within the books are arranged chronologically, not by writer or topic.

It is particularly strong in the area of corporate minutes and reports, financial history, membership, publications, and grant awards. There is also a fine set of recorded sermons that may have been created as exemplars for educational purposes.
Evangelical Education SocietyThis collection contains the minutes for the Board of Missions plenary body as well as its constituent committees, the Domestic Committee and the Foreign Committee, and a small number of associated publications, reports, and other records. Additionally, there is a small selection of minutes for sub-committees, such as the Finance Committees, the Indian Commission, and the Freedman’s Aid Commission.
