Office of the Suffragan Bishop for the Armed Forces. Records

This archive consists of materials that document the Office of the Suffragan Bishop for the Armed Forces from when General Convention established the Office of the Suffragan Bishop to 1975. Earlier materials collected by the office relate to the history and legislation on military chaplains date back to 1924. Included in the collection are meeting minutes, correspondence, diocesan files, topical files, records of grant applications and conferences, and publicity materials.

Official Acts of the Presiding Bishop

Pastoral records relating to the House of Bishops, diocesan visitations, ongoing episcopal relationships with active and retired bishops, participation in governance bodies, pastoral letters and official communications; formal addresses and sermons; may include the Council of Advice; also includes confidential communications and records of the Ecclesiastical Discipline process, such as official inquiries, charges, proceedings, and accords and orders; also confidential incident or case files of in the oversight of bishops, employees, diocesan entities, and similar bodies.

Ogilby (Rt. Rev.), Lyman C. Papers

The papers of Bishop Ogilby comprise printed materials, photograph albums, and some miscellaneous loose photographs. The primary value of this collection is the material pertaining to the Brent School in the Philippines and the relationship of the Ogilby family to the school. Although some of the photographs date back as far as 1913, most of the materials reflect the 1950s and 1960s during the rebuilding of the school after World War II.

Okolona Industrial School. Records

ACI records on Okolona School include meeting minutes of the Board of Trustees (1938-1953, 1966) and its Executive Committee (1941, 1948-1952), the school President’s reports (1937-1942, 1944-1946, 1948), and financial records (1935-1968). ACI Director’s correspondence (1937-1944, 1950-1951) is primarily with the school’s principals and the bishops of Tennessee and Mississippi. This series includes a survey report of the school by the George Peabody College for Teachers (1946).

Overseas Department. China Mission Records

The records of the Overseas Department document the missionary endeavors of The Episcopal Church in China from 1835 to 1954 and include correspondence, reports, financial records, publications, and visual records. The three geographic districts in which Episcopal missions were located, Shanghai, Hankow, and Anking, as well as Chung Hua Sheng Kung Hui, the Holy Catholic Church in China, are represented.

These records primarily document Dr. Clifford P. Morehouse's six-year tenure as President of the House of Deputies (1961-1967) and include correspondence and General Convention meeting materials. A smaller group of materials including correspondence and reports documenting Morehouse’s involvement as a member of Executive Council rounds out the collection.
