The search box is the primary means to find Catalog records that contain text matching a search query. By default this search returns Archival description, or descriptions of collections. For multi word searches, such as “Lay Ministry”, the results will return records that include “Lay” AND “Ministry”, or “Lay Ministry”. To search only “Lay Ministry” as a phrase, put the search term in quotation marks (“Lay Ministry”), this will return all results that have only the complete phrase “Lay Ministry”.
For other search options, click the Advanced Search button. The Advanced Search allows users to restrict searches to specific fields, groupings of records, or to exclude results.
Returned results can be further narrowed using the left sidebar, to view results from specific classifications (Part of), creators, or with access points (Name, Place, Subject, Genre).
When searching in the search bar, the typeahead function previews search results, organized by Archival Description , Authority Records, or Subject term, or Location term.
On the left side of the home page are alternative ways of browsing the Catalog. Holdings returns all classifications and collections described in the catalog. Creators returns the list of authority records, or a record describing the creator of each collection. Classification will display the Archives’ classification schema, which includes thirteen catagories based on the structure and functions of the church. Many of the top level classes have sub groups that can be viewed by clicking the plus (+) to expand the text.
