Abstract

Pamela Pauly Chinnis was a pioneering lay leader in The Episcopal Church and the first woman to serve as President of the House of Deputies (1991–2000). After joining the Church of the Epiphany in Washington, D.C. in 1948, she became her parish’s first female warden and went on to leadership at every level of the church, including President of the 1976 Triennial Meeting of Episcopal Church Women, Vice-President of Province III (1979–1985), member of the Executive Council, and delegate to the Anglican Consultative Council. Known for her advocacy of women’s ordination and under-represented groups, she was widely respected for her inclusive, faith-driven leadership.
