    • Abstract: The Evangelical Education Society of the Protestant Episcopal Church (EES) was founded as a national body in support of Episcopal education and evangelism in 1866 through a merger of multiple diocesan societies with the Divinity Students’ Aid Society in Philadelphia. Through the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it furthered the advancement of “rational religion” that dominated The Episcopal Church by supporting clerical education; sponsoring gatherings, conferences and workshops; publishing books and pamphlets; and aiding campus evangelism. In 1977, it established its Evangelism for the 21st Century (E-21) grant program to support emerging forms of lay and clerical ministries. In 2014, the EES Board changed its name to the Episcopal Evangelism Society, a name under which it still operates.
