Abstract

William Baillie Green was born on April 3, 1927. After earning an undergraduate degree from Baylor University and attending both Louisville Seminary in Kentucky and Union Theological Seminary in New York, Green earned a doctorate in Philosophical Theology from the University of Edinburgh. Originally Presbyterian, Green converted to The Episcopal Church in 1969 and was ordained a priest in 1972. A lifelong academic and educator, he taught at multiple colleges and universities, including the Episcopal Theological Seminary of the Southwest (1970-1999). He authored a number of articles on Paul Tillich and traditional theological subjects. A collection of his personal writings was published in 1999 under the title Ask, Seek, Knock: Sermons and Prayers.
