    • Abstract: The Episcopal Church began its work in Haiti in May 1861, with the arrival of the Reverend James Theodore Holly. In May of 1863, he established Holy Trinity Church, the first Episcopal parish in Haiti. At the time of his death in 1911, the church had fifteen parishes, seven mission stations, six small primary schools, and one clinic. In 1913 the General Convention granted the clergy’s request for the Church to be made a missionary district of the Episcopal Church. Another ten years would pass before a bishop was consecrated to serve in Haiti.
