- Abstract: The Historical Society of the Episcopal Church (HSEC) is an organization dedicated to preserving and promoting the history of The Episcopal Church and the broader Anglican tradition. Founded in 1910 in Philadelphia as the Church Historical Society and incorporated in 1913, it was designated in 1940 as the official repository for the records of General Convention. The Society’s library and collections were later moved to Austin, Texas, to accommodate expansion and continued to grow alongside the church’s archival program. In 1976, the organization adopted its current name, and by 1985, the Archives of the Episcopal Church became a separate entity under the General Convention. Since then, HSEC has focused on supporting historical research, publishing, and education. It continues to advance Episcopal and Anglican historiography through its quarterly journal Anglican and Episcopal History, its newsletter The Historiographer, and its grant programs for scholars and institutions.
