- Abstract: William (“Will”) Scarlett was active in supporting social justice and ecumenical causes and served on several important commissions and committees in the national leadership of the Church. These included the General Convention Commission on Marriage and Divorce, the Joint Commission on Social Reconstruction, and the Joint Commission on Approaches to Unity. The Diocese of Missouri became known throughout the Church because of Scarlett’s leadership, notably his dedication of diocesan resources to help those left jobless and homeless after the Great Depression.
