Abstract

William Ives Rutter, Jr., was born in Pottstown, Pennsylvania, October 12, 1871, and died in Philadelphia on May 11, 1952. He was member of St. Mary’s Church (Hamilton Village), Philadelphia, where he served on the vestry and later as warden from 1904 to the 1940s. He was a charter member of the Church Historical Society (Historical Society of the Episcopal Church), for which he served as secretary from its founding, May 17, 1910 until he retired, January 18, 1951. Rutter was also a member of the diocesan historical committee, and several other local historical associations, which complemented his interests as a collector of manuscripts.
