- Abstract: The first General Meeting of the Women’s Auxiliary was held in 1874, when the women resolved to meet concurrently with General Convention in what came to be known as the Triennial meetings. During the Triennium of 1956-1958, women's work in the Church as a division of the National Council was renamed the General Division of Women's Work. Rejecting the auxiliary status, diocesan organizations began to rename themselves the Episcopal Church Women. For several sessions, the Triennial was primarily organized by various ad hoc committees until the 1985 gathering, which established the Episcopal Church Woman (ECW). This organization reclaimed its right as the successor body to the Women's Auxiliary and assumed responsibility for organizing the Triennial gatherings.
