- Abstract: National Council established an advisory committee in 1940 called the Presiding Bishop's Fund for World Relief (PBFWR) “to receive contributions for the relief of human needs created by the war." With the conclusion of the war in 1945, the emphasis changed with the creation of the Committee on Aid to Sister Churches to be funded by PBFWR. That year, General Convention approved raising one million dollars per year for relief work and inter-church aid and in 1950 renamed the group the Committee on World Relief and Church Cooperation. In February 1960 National Council had established a new Committee with a supporting Division of World Relief and Inter-Church Aid under the Christian Social Relations Department. This lasted under Executive Council until 1967 but without a lead staff person after 1965. Relief work was not fully revived until 1972.
